Abstract
Julian Barnes is a recognized British writer who combines markers of
postmodernist and realistic writing techniques in his work. In literary circles, he is better
known for his novels, which have been studied more thoroughly than his short stories. The
short stories of this author represent an interesting phenomenon, where his worldview and
conception of humanity are clearly articulated. The purpose of this study to define specific
features of the characters in the collections "The Lemon Table" and "Pulse".
