Abstract
In the article, the author draws attention to the scientific work of the literary critic J. Esenov called "The Price of a Word". It deeply studies the achievements and shortcomings of Karakalpak stories of the 1980s, noted by the critic scientist J. Yesenov. The author also notes the correct assessment given to scientific stories by Zh. Abdireymov "Shaydakov's Boots", G. Tursynova of "Happiness isn't on sale, D. Sherniyazova "A white scarf", A. Halmuratova "Two moments of one life", specified by him achievements and shortcomings of these stories. The author emphasizes that as a result of the comprehensive development of the Karakalpak prose genres, styles were improved in the 1980s, there were many forms and this became a significant phenomenon in literary science. The works of M. Nyzanov and S. Zhumagulov in this direction are considered by a literary critic from the point of view of that period. However, the author notes that the study of stories in this scientific work from the point of view of today is one of the relevant issues.
