Abstract
This article discusses the principal role of visual art in cultivating young people as fully developed individuals and in the formation of their worldview as well as understanding the fact that all the artists' works are the fruit of independent, creative thinking. The scientific and theoretical foundations of the formation of creative thinking among students of art specialties of universities in the system of their professional training are revealed: a close, organic connection between the results of direct observation and depiction of nature with elements of abstraction based on artistic generalization of the image of nature; the interaction of the logical analysis of the depicted object and the emotional-sensory reaction both to the object of the image itself and to the image process.
