The article discusses the role and importance of portraiture in the novel, its scientific functions. A scientific analysis of the nature, peculiarities, types and function of portraiture in poetics are made. Samples of portraits in the novels of
K. Matmuratov and K. Karimov in Karakalpak novels are considered.
